Welcome to APICS NYC-LI Chapter!
President's Message
We held the transition Board of Director's meeting on June 15, 2010 and as we close out the program year it is time to both reflect and look forward to next year. The last year was a very demanding year economically for many of our members and their companies. The economy dictated three of our Long Island and New York City professional development dinner meetings. My thanks go out to Richard Povak, Anne D. Shuybunko Moore, and Frank Robilotto. These three LI area chief executives provided valuable insights into surviving and thriving in a tough economy which was presented during our October Top Management Night. We also thank Gabe Eisner, who took it upon himself to form an employment transition group within our chapter. He has established a no-cost venue for people to network and practice the skills required to secure a position in this economy. Thankfully some of that group's members have left the group because they found jobs.Congratulations to ADP and ADP's Andrew Trager. ADP was selected as our chapter? s Company of the Year for their support in making APICS an active part of New York City's business life once again. Also recognized as Volunteers of the Year for rebuilding APICS in New York City were St. Claire Gerald and Gary Smith who combined their skills to put together the city based programs. Our final Volunteer of the Year is Nancy Massar, who personally brought or had access to so many of the skills required to run a non-profit organization like the NYC-LI Chapter of APICS, but are not usually present in a membership of Operations and Supply Chain professionals.
As we look to next year, I want to thank those who responded to our survey. If you haven't and would still like to, please go to our survey.. We did have some surprise answers in that survey. The Board of Directors is working to understand what you are telling us and how to modify our programs to continue meeting your wants and needs. With people having more and more difficulty physically getting to an eight to ten week evening class, we are closely monitoring the impending release of a distance learning program from the international APICS society and we intend to be an early adopter of that program. APICS also has a new one-day course entitled Customer Focused Supply Chain Management which we intend to offer in the fall.
Have a good summer and we look forward to seeing you in September.
