Professional Development Meeting
The “No Excuses” Supply Chain
Tuesday, April 20, 2010
The New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) is the largest public housing authority in the United States. It is New York City’s largest property owner. NYCHA public housing represents 8.3% of the city’s rental units and is home to 5% of the city’s residents. NYCHA’s Supply Chain Operations (SCO) is responsible for sourcing, purchasing, warehousing and delivering material used to maintain and repair the Authority’s 340 developments.
Gary A. Smith, CPIM, CSCP will discuss SCO’s “No Excuses” Supply Chain Management philosophy and how adopting private sector practices has saved time and money for the Authority. ”Excuses” in this context are barriers that prevent the efficient and effective flow of materials or information. They can occur with customers, vendors and within the organization itself. He will also discuss SCO’s “No Excuses” approach to environmental sustainability.
